Don’t let the butter be removed from your bread – is that possible?
This works out. Because it is not important what kind of carbohydrates consumers consume, but the interplay of bread and other foods. Says author and nutrition coach Graeme Tomlinson, “The key to losing weight is simply to eat fewer calories.” It can be absorbed through both fat and carbohydrates.
He goes on to say that there is no scientific evidence that carbohydrates are responsible for weight gain. And here we come to the heart of the matter:
Because it is not the bread that is decisive, but the topping.
Tomlinson explains: Many spreads or toppings can contain between twice and 4 times as many calories as in the bread itself. This is especially the case with cheese and chocolate or nut spreads. On Instagram, the expert shows that you should not save on the bread itself, but on the toppings. A slice of bread has around 95 calories (kcal), while the same slice topped with jam and peanut butter has over 400 kcal.
A basic idea for many foods
The nutritionist Bonnie Taub-Dix also jumps on this train and extends Tomlinson’s basic idea: Because what applies to bread can also be used for meals with pasta, potatoes or rice. Sauces or other side dishes quickly make a meal fatter than it needs to be. Still keeping an overview while counting calories? That will be difficult, says the expert.
She continues: Carbohydrates in combination with a lot of fiber, as found in whole grain products, make you fuller and happier. According to some research, consuming high-carbohydrate foods improves mood. Because what does bread do to us emotionally? Taub-Dix says: A sandwich makes us feel like we’ve had a decent meal and prevents us from overeating.
Do something good for the body so that the soul feels like living in it
In other words: customers should eat what they like. Otherwise there is a risk of food cravings. The nutrition expert’s recommendation: Carbohydrates, fat and protein should be balanced. That makes a meal not only healthy, but also tasty – a treat for the taste buds, the entire body and the mind.
Taub-Dix considers it inadvisable to completely avoid carbohydrates: The yo-yo effect lurks behind the waiver because it leads to food cravings.
Can carbohydrates and weight loss be combined?
Yes. Tomlinson advises you to keep an eye on your entire meal. Customers could, for example, consult the kitchen scales or check how their own bread topping differs from the serving suggestion on the package. The serving suggestion can be a good support when adjusting portion sizes.
The bottom line is that Tomlinson observes that a diet that tastes good is far more likely to be successful than a diet that consumers find it difficult to adhere to. The best results can be achieved with small changes in diet.
